Julia Peyton, Ph.D.

Julia Peyton, Ph.D., is the Vice President of Research and Development at Cambium Learning Group- Voyager. She joined the company in 2005 after teaching at the University of Oregon with Dr. Roland Good in school psychology and serving as a researcher on the DIBELS research team. Prior to that, Julia spent 7 years carrying out research in the area of effective scientifically based supplementary reading instruction for at-risk populations and has collaborated on multiple studies in the area of early identification and intervention for reading disabilities under the Office of Special Education Programs including: an outreach project that provided staff development for K-3 teachers and paraprofessionals in research-based early reading instruction, a 5-year field initiated research study of tutoring programs in early reading skills, sustainability of effective innovations; a model demonstration  project to field-test and evaluate supplementary instruction in advanced decoding and structural analysis skills; and a research study of a 1:1 tutoring program for at-risk kindergarten students in phonological and phonics-based skills.
At Cambium Learning Group, in addition to program development Julia works on efficacy studies and evaluations. These evaluations inform the company and support districts such as Los Angeles Unified School District, and Buffalo City Public Schools to effectively implement outcome driven models and use data to drive instructional decision making. She received her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Washington, her M.Ed. in Specific Learning Disabilities from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her B.Ed. in Special Education from Gonzaga University.
